Tracy SimmonsHi, my name is Tracy Simmons..  I’ve been a medical transcriptionist who has worked at home for over 8-1/2 years.

I’m a bit of an MT renegade in that I believe in forging my own path rather than following the flock.  I’m rarely content with the status quo and like to push the limits in ethical, helpful ways as often as I can.  Perhaps you’ve heard Laurel Thatcher Ulrich’s quote: “Well behaved women rarely make history.”  My husband would attest that this should be tattooed onto my forehead.

I graduated from an online medical transcription school with honors in January of 2001.  Since that time I’ve been involved in the MT world in various capacities outside of my daily transcription work:

  • I co-moderated of a medical transcription forum.
  • I co-moderated an email list for medical transcriptionists.
  • I published an article in the the Journal of the American Association for Medical Transcription (JAAMT).

It’s my desire to help others who also want to work at home as medical transcriptionists.  Sometimes you need to rock the boat a little bit in order to see the dream come to life.   Let me tell you a little bit about my story and background:

I have a degree in Electronics Technology.  I formerly worked for software companies, high precision electronic firms, etc.  All of those positions, however, required me to show up at a building for the entire day, which often took a long drive to get there.  In the year 2000,  I decided what I really wanted was to be able to work at home.

After doing much research on what career choice would enable me to fulfill this dream of being home every day, I decided to become a medical transcriptionist.  After training I landed my first medical transcription job in January of 2001.

Since then I have tried on many hats in the MT world, including:

  • Forming my own business and transcribing for a local doctor.
  • Being an independent contractor working for a national company.
  • Holding a position as a statutory employee at a local hospital.
  • Working as an employee for a local hospital with fabulous benefits.

The one constant for the past 8+ years is that I have worked at home.  I live  and work out of my log cabin with two crazy dogs at my feet (and one slightly more sane husband close at hand).

This web site is an expression of my desire to pass on what I’ve learned and to share the resources that others have so freely shared with me over the years.

Feel free to ask me any questions if you want to know more. Head over to my contact page to reach me.
