If you have wanted to work at home but did not know what type of career you might be to have while earning a decent income, I would invite you to investigate becoming a medical transcriptionist. It was a great choice for me and it might be the perfect career for as well. Years ago I was at the beginning of the same journey that you are just now embarking on. Is one of these places your starting point?
- Perhaps you are a mom who needs to stay home with her kids. You love being home with your children, but you also feel the need to bring in some income.
- Possibly you just want greater freedom. Freedom from a boss dictating what hours you need to work. Freedom from your employer telling where you need to work. Freedom from long commutes.
- It could be that your pursuit is more along the lines of financial freedom. You want to be rewarded for your hard work, to have your pay be commensurate with your effort.
- Maybe you have just grown weary of office politics. You just want to be able to pour yourself into your job and not have to deal with all the other baggage that can accompany working in an office.
- You may be looking for the job security that can be found in this industry as the medical field continues to grow.
- Or it might just be that you’re a homebody who loves to stay in your PJs all day long, but need a steady income.
A career in medical transcription really can help meet all of the needs expressed in the above situations. I’ve worked at home for over 8 years as a medical transcriptionist. I’ve done it all, from being an independent contractor with her own business, to being a statutory employee who has worked for a large national company, to being an at-home employee for a local hospital with great benefits. Each option has definite advantages and disadvantages, but all of them led me to greater freedom in nearly every sense of the word.
If you’re ready to decide your own hours, quit commuting, and determine your own earning potential in a career that will continually challenge you, I’d encourage you to investigate medical transcription as a great career choice.
